Institute for Empirical Research in Economics – ProDoc

Organization of the ProDoc and eligibility for ProDoc research fellowships

Research in the ProDoc is organized into four thematically related projects (participating researchers in parentheses, hyperlink to lead investigator):

RM1: Individual Heterogeneity and Social Interaction(Prof. Ernst Fehr)
RM2: Capital Flows, Asset Prices and International Risk Sharing among Heterogeneous Economies (Prof. Mathias Hoffmann and Prof. Ulrich Woitek)
RM3: The Impact of Income Distribution and Institutions on Development and Globalization(Prof. Reto Foellmi, Prof. Fabrizio Zilibotti and Prof. Josef Zweimüller)
RM4: The Role of Distribution and Cultural Heterogeneity for Human Capital Formation and Long-Run Development(Prof. Josef Falkinger and Prof. Ulrich Woitek)

To be eligible for one of the doctoral research fellowships, students must hold a Masters’' or equivalent degree in economics or a related discipline. Furthermore, they must be eligible for acceptance into UZH’'s Doctoral Program in Economics (DPE). Application for a fellowship is therefore through the application to the DPE. Please state in your application to the DPE if you are also applying for a ProDoc fellowship.
In their first year of doctoral studies follow the general sequence of general Ph.D. courses in microecnomics, macroeconomics and econometrics that are compulsory for all participants of the DPE. In addition, ProDoc fellows will attend specialized courses that prepare them for independent research in one of the areas outlined above. There is also a very active program of seminars and short courses taught by prominent international academics. For specific subject-related questions, please contact the respective lead investigator. General enquiries should be addressed to the Speaker of the ProDoc, Prof. Mathias Hoffmann (mathias.hoffmann[at]iew.uzh.ch).
